MAINE IN THE FALL - 2024
One of my favorite states in the country, see my trip in October of 2024 to the Pine Tree State
MOTHERS BEACH - KENNEBUNKPORT
Sunset on the first night after the storms came through created colors of blue, pink, and purple over the cold and damp Atlantic air. Though this was sunset, this was looking at the opposite side of the sunset, facing east.
AURORA BOREALIS - SOUTHWEST HARBOR
Taken during the great solar magnetic storm of October 2024, down by the Seawall at Acadia National Park, the sky dances with green and reds in the sky, a rare storm seen with the naked eye. I previously seen the lights twice this year in New York but not away from home and I was so glad I did not miss this. Also during this trip, I was able to share my experience for once as I was with family for this one, a rare thing for me since I travel solo all the time.
SHIP HARBOR - BASS HARBOR
Down a trail not well known in Acadia Park and next to the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse Station lies Ship Harbor where a .5 mile in and out trail secretly lays next to the calm waters of Ship Harbor, known for being a good stopping point to dock your ship back in Colonial Times away from the rough Atlantic Ocean.
CARRIAGE ROADS - BAR HARBOR
Acadia Park is known for its horse carriage roads that traverse through the park along Bar Harbor. I had the pleasure to ride a e-bike though here with my family on a 30 mile trip through the roads and had one of the most memorable days I had ever spent at a park in general. You wouldn’t believe this day started with cold and freezing rain but it turned into the perfect fall day. After stopping to re-adjust my bike, I looked around and saw this shot in my head and quickly took my camera out. I don’t think I could have captured Acadia in the fall any better than this.
SALT MARSHES - SCARBOROUGH
This one is cheating since this was from the summer of 2024 but I had to include it anyways. This is along Route 1 and easy to access to, the Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center has many hiking trails along the marshes including leading to this one along the Nonesuch River. The simplicity of this scene makes it a favorite of mine,
EASTERNMOST POINT - LUBEC
West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec is the easternmost point of the continental United States. This is the first place in the country you will see the sunrise in America for half the year (Cadillac Mountain is the other place). The lighthouse was built in 1858 and was made to help ships navigate going up the Saint Croix River. Once again even looking east, this was at sunset/dusk, creating these beautiful colors.
THUNDER COVE - BAR HARBOR
This spot is more well known for Thunder Hole, the spot where the waves ripple into a tight inlet and makes a thunderous noise but what many overlook is this little gem right next to it. I am not sure what its name is but I’ll call it “Thunder Cove”. This spot is quintessential Acadia with the rocks and the pines on the water, the only thing you are missing is the smell of the salt air and the bells from the lighthouses nearby.
SCREW AUGER FALLS - GRAFTON
Probably Maine’s most well known waterfall, located in Grafton Notch State Park near the New Hampshire border is a bit of the way out there but its beauty is worth the drive. This slot canyon of a waterfall is a cant miss when in Maine.
